George was, without a doubt, the smartest comedian of all-time. After seeing his last HBO special, I knew that things weren't quite right with him, but I was hoping he'd prove me wrong and stick around another 30 years.

It's a real shame to see truly brilliant minds like his cease to exist, but Carlin's words will definitely entertain and hopefully enlighten people forever.

Joespeed, George. :)

One of my favorite skits of his was Baseball Vs Football. Being a football fan I found it be absolutely hilarious  :D

Yeah, that's one of my favorites too.  The guy could wax poetic about any subject, really.  The word genius gets tossed around way too easily these days, but he truly was a genius, both as a comedian and quite literally, in the way he could memorize those massive amounts of material.

I'd say George Carlin was probably my favorite living person, next to Muhammad Ali.  Now that he's gone, I get the strange feeling Ali won't be far behind either.

Back to Carlin, though, I read the headline late last night about his death and my jaw and stomach hit the floor.  It's gonna be really hard for me to watch any of his stuff from now on without a heavy heart.

Robin Williams is my other favorite. We won't ever have one like him again. I hope we have him for many more years to come.

But yeah, he was a comedic genius. I was just talking about him a few days ago with my cousin... Totally bummed my day out :(

Ya know, I've been reflecting on Carlin today and a few things occurred to me:

-Carlin was the narrator of Thomas and Friends, which according to my mom, was my single favorite show as a kid.

-I can remember loving every single minute of his short-lived but funny self-titled comedy show on FOX, even though at that time (the mid-90's), I was still a teenager and completely unaware that he even did stand-up comedy.

-And then, George somehow found his way into my adult life about 6 or 7 years ago, and I've been a huge fan ever since.

Looking back, though, it seems I've been a huge fan of George Carlin since I was in diapers! ;)

Yes, Tanner. He was really something special for sure! Not to "date myself" but ~ oh well ~ I remember when he started out and the first time I saw him early in his career was on the Johnny Carson show. He cracked me up and I laughed so hard my stomach hurt. I even remember the bit he did. I've been hooked on Carlin ever since. (My kids too.)

It's sad to hear he's gone. But I can't think of him without a smile in my heart and on my face.

Here's George at age 29 doing one of his now famous bits on the Tonight Show and making Johnny Carson nearly fall out of his chair from laughter.

By the way, Jenn - you can bite me! ;D

He was so funny.  he was the guy we listened to when mom wasn't around to bust us.  I listened to him on the Dr. Demento Show on Sunday nights.
He was a lot funnier before he got sober, but still a brilliant and intellegent comedian.

One last mention from me on this subject, but I thought it was relevant to BPO.
