Introducing Brougan, my IW
« on: November 06, 2008, 03:19:14 pm »
I just wanted to introduce myself and my IW Brougan. I'm excited to have found this website, and eager to talk to other people who don't think it's insane to own 1 or MORE Giant breed dogs!!  My name is Kim, by the way.

Welcome Kim!  I saw an IW for the first time up close and personal a few days ago.  My heart was pounding in my chest,  then my foot was pounding in pain because she walked on it...lol!
They seem to have such a docile personality, at least this one did,  my 9 mos old mastiff was all over her.  I think he was amazed at her size, I know I was!!!
Look forward to hearing more about him.

Hi Kim,

How could ANYONE think you're crazy owning those pooches? I'll be more than happy to take Brougan :-* off your feeding list!

I'm Patty and my girls are above and below!
Chantilly is my puppy girl. She's 12 weeks.

PS-Never mind just Brougan--I'll take BOTH of them  :-*

I found this site myself about 8 mnths ago and love it! I adopted my komondor/lab mix from a local shelter in Feb when she was just 8 weeks old and I can't believe her growth so far. 10 months and 97lbs! Anyway, alot of people say she looks kinda like she may have IW in her. With a mix you never know. She was solid black with four white toes when I got her. She looks more like a "russian blue"now. She is all gray with four white legs. Regardless, welcome! I lover your pooch.
My name is Lori.

Welcome and it's exciting to see another IW owner.  I have such a special place in my heart for them, even though the ones i have greatest experience with have been mixed breed wolfhounds.  They are such gentle giants and so lovey.

Thanks everyone for the kind words of welcome!!  My other Giant dog is a Wolfhound mix--I LOVE IWs, but they are not the healthiest breed by any means, and I'm struggling to get mine to age 7.  So last year when a friend was looking to breed her Great Dane, I asked if she'd mind breeding to my Brougan.  I kept a pup, now about a year old, and named him Dearg.  He's way too much Dane in looks, but I can see some of my Brougan in him too.  And if TWO wasn't enough, I went out and bought another Dane/Wolfhound mix from a lady who's Wolfhound decided she liked a friend's Dane better than the other IW she WANTED to breed her to.  Her name is Tiegan, and she is a Blue Merle in color.  Much more Wolfhound in looks than Dearg.  I was keeping my options open as far as breeding Dearg and Tiegan in the future (these guys are SOOOO great, and I'm not sure how I will ever find another, since no one breeds them on purpose), but, alas, Dearg developed a severe infection in his testicles and is now neutered.  Oh, well, I guess it just wasn't meant to be.

Thanks again, everyone, and I look forward to chatting with you all in the future about the Giants!!  Oh, and here's a recent pic of Tiegan
