What happens after a surgery like that? Does she stay off it for a while, which I guess is impossible, or get up and start moving around?

it's 30 days of limited movement because scar tissue needs to form around the new ligament.  no jumping, no playing, no nothing.  Leashing walking to potty only.   She won't feel much like doing anything for that 30 days, so it's not a big deal.  the first 2 weeks is crucial since the incision is healing. In about 4 weeks, she'll toy with the idea of doing more and getting back to normal.  Basically, it's 2 to 4 months of learning to walk and getting the leg back in shape.  after 2 months we get to walk 5 minutes a day and increase that by 5 minutes each week till the muscle is back to normal.  in about 4 months, she'll be back to her old self.

Wow..that's quite a recuperation. I hope everything goes perfectly, and then it will be spring. That's a lovely time to start moving around again.

it is.  She likes to have this done when the snow gets to be 10 feet deep though.  It's hard to get around in the snow right now and will be tough when the ice comes, but she managed tonight pretty well.  At least I'm not completely ruining her summer.

Oh Lin...poor Grace, poor mom!
I feel much sympathy for both of you. Ashley had both legs done, and it wasn't easy either time, but, like with Grace, we do what we have to do.  Undecided

Take good care of the pretty lady and take good care of yourself as well.

Big hugs, and only the best thoughts for the fastest, best recoup period on record!  Kiss  Kiss  Kiss

The close up shots make me want to gently grab her face and kiss it.. Kiss  Kiss  Kiss  Kiss

Awww poor sweet Grace, give her some snuggles and kisses from us.
I'm sorry it will be such a long recovery, but happy she finally got it done so eventually she'll be back to a bouncing active puppy without any pain.
Since she doesn't get to go out on her walks now you may have to go and look around for all the goodies she liked to find and bring her binkies, balloons, shoes, etc. I don't think new toys are the same for her, she probably likes them previously used by other people.
