After Dinner Behavior
« on: August 21, 2005, 01:33:45 am »
After eating dinner Bear gets crazy! He runs everywhere and totally wants to play more than ever. He gets crazy- running around, jumping and throwing toys in the air just waiting for me to play with him! I always have to stop him, which makes me feel bad, so that he doesn't get bloat or anything. I was just wondering if your dogs do this to and why? Does it just feel so good to have a full belly or what?

Don't have that problem here. It must feel really good to have a full belly. It puts Kiah to sleep. I wish I could take a nap after a full meal. :)

My babies get sleepy too after a meal.  Sorry can't help you there!   :D

Dixie Darlin & Sugar Bear do the same thing.  They eat and then they want to run and play. I have found the best thing is for me to take them on a very short slow walk around the house.  They take an hour nap and then they are ready to play.

Dixie Darlin - Great Pyrenees 4 yr.

Sorry Jabas, I wont be of help either  :D Here they eat, then they slowly make their way to the couch and take a nap. Galahad who is the only one who needs his mouth wiped after food, tries to sneak off and instead find a pant leg or shirt sleeve to wipe his mouth on  ;D After that he is huffing and puffing and dragging himself up as if he was 100 years old. Then it takes approx 15 sec and he is snorring lol....

So no play here either after breakfast or dinner

What kind of food does he eat? Things like sugar, dye, and preservatives can cause hyperactivity in some dogs.  Does he do this if he eats at another time or only in the evenings?

Hmmm..hadn't thought about the work thing but that might have something to do with it. He is on Solid Gold Millenia (dark blue bag) and Natural Balance meat stick thing....he loves it. Maybe cuz he is off his ear meds and his appetite is back he might be overly excited too. I dunno.....make s me wonder though now that I know I am rare in this situation.  :o

Nope....I think it may be the Fresno water, mom going back to work after being home 24-7 for 8 weeks and being off his nasty, tummy-upsetting meds for his ears. He is back to normal plus some!  :D

I think crazy after dinner means that he loved every bit of the food he had!

OMG - You are back at work!!!  I was wondering where you'd run off to...I thought maybe I was in trouble again!

With Ranger, it kind of depends.  If we have had our walk prior to dinner, then he just lazes around afterwards.  If we haven't.....

Ranger's Brain:

1.)  Where is that cat...b/c if he is around here, I must chase him NOW!

2.)  Where is my leash....I need my walk NOW!

3.)  I "found" my frisbee!  Yahoo!  Oh....Mom...I need to play NOW!

4.)  What's that noise outside?  I must bark loudly and go investigate NOW!

5.)  Hmm...Mom's cooking dinner.  Wonder if I can sneak a bite.  I'll sniff around and get right under her in an attempt to make her bust her butt, yet again....NOW!

6.)  OOOH...check out that laundry basket.  Must chew up Mom's underwear (not Dad's)...NOW!

Just another lovely afternoon at the madhouse....

dohertyswissy - That's so funny! The only thing Kiah does on your list is chase cats and gets under my feet while I'm cooking dinner. I couldn't stop laughing!! ;D

Kiahpyr - You gotta love 'em right?!  I mean, Ranger doesn't know that I have a permanent bruise on my tailbone from his attempts to countersurf and that if he chases the cat one more time I'm going to have a nervous breakdown, right?!?!?  Right?!?!? (They don't know...do they?;) )

Glad someone is feelin' my pain here!  ;)
