Missing Link Supplement
« on: August 27, 2005, 12:16:42 pm »
Just wondering if anyone has used Missing Link supplement? It's a powder that is put on the dogs food. My vet recommended it because I called him again. I'm always calling my vet about one thing or another. I think he's tired of me. lol! This time I called about switching dog foods or supplementing. That's when he told me about missing link. Here's their website....

I'm still trying to figure out what's the best dog food out there. It's so confusing. Please let me know what you think. I like you want the best for my baby.

I use missing link...its really good...good for omegas.  But the omegas are from flaxseed, which I guess, dogs don't break down as easily as the salmon oil.  My vet said that to just add some fish oil also so that is what I do....

I used Missing Link for a bit with Cabo and he seemed to do well on it.  The only reason I stopped was that after his pancreatitis, he was on a very restricted diet and that wasn't on it!

We use the Solid Gold Sea Meal with our guys right now.  I am not really sure what it is doing for their insides, but their coats are much softer and silkier on it....   ;D

I have been thinking about switching them off the Sea Meal and onto the Missing Link just in case it is better for their joints or something, but I am not sure.  It is so confusing when you want to do what is best for them, but there are so many choices that you are not sure which is the right one!

I don't use it, simply b/c it kinda expensive, but I know of many people who swear by it.  Several people have said it really helps with cutting down the amount of shedding.

Everyone wants to get the best for their baby. But there is no 'best dog food' just the one that fits your needs best. I think its great that you are doing research to try and find something just right. I think that the main things you should consider are where you can get it (it doesn't help to find the 'perfect food' if it isn't sold in a 20 mile radius), how much you can afford, and what nutrition it holds for your dog. When I wanted to switch, I researched and found out what qualities I wanted in a food and got an idea about good brands, and then went to the pet stores in the area to see what the best foods they offered were, researched those brands some more, and then picked one that had the human grade ingredients that were important to me.

Let me give you some likes that might help you:

* One of the best sources out there is the Whole Dog Journal. http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/ They put out a top ten list of dry dog foods, but since I am too cheap to pay for an article when I can get the information for free, here are two links that quote the info from different years: http://www.nhratterriers.com/goodfood.htm and http://www.canine-epilepsy.com/toptenfoods.html

*One good article that gives you a checklist for thingas to look for is the Animal Protection Institues 'Selecting a commercial pet food' http://www.api4animals.org/689.htm

* If you are prepared to be disturbed read the API's article 'what's really in pet food' http://www.api4animals.org/79.htm I warn you that I was so digusted by what I learned from it that I will never buy most major brands.

Whatever decision you make will be the right one for you and your pup because obviously it will be made with love.

We use m inimal supplements,  Beauty however sheds quite often.  She gets Solid Gold Seal Meal in her food and it has drastically decreased the amount of shedding for her.  We also give Scorbate (vit C) from Solid Gold to help with bone developement.
When she had a period of stress in her life her coat was dry and frankly nasty, she was on Flax seed oil, also from soild gold, we bought it in the gallon jugs as it was more cost friendly, has all the Omega's and really did a wonderful job in improving her coat and helped with shedding.
Happiness comes of the capacity to feel deeply, to enjoy simply, to think freely, to risk life, to be needed.
