Could You Decide Between These Two?
« on: November 02, 2005, 12:05:55 pm »
So I thought we had picked out our new little Saint puppy after trying to decide between the two short-haired males that were available. But a couple of nights ago, Gil and I were looking at the pictures of the puppies again (that was our first mistake) and then the second guessing began. We called the breeder to see if the other male was still available (our second mistake) and he is since the ad isn't going into the local paper until the weekend. So I decided to go look at the puppies again (third mistake).

When I got to the puppy room, all 11 puppies were sleeping and awoke when they saw me. I was hoping for a clear sign to happen as to which puppy I should choose but they both were the first two to run over to me. So, I took more picture, held and cuddled them both and told the breeder we would confirm by Friday which puppy we want.

Since it's too early to get a full sense of their personalities (they are five 1/2 weeks), we can only go on looks and size. Gershwin A (our first choice), has uneven mask on his face, with one side having more black than the other. He's currently smaller than his brother, Gershwin B and will not resemble his father as much.  His head will not be as massive as his fathers, so he will have a longer snout and shorter ears. He also has a monk's cap on his head.

Gershwin B is a big chubby boy who will look a lot like his father (see picture attached). He also has a monk's cap on his head too. His mask is symmetrical on his face.

Argh! Even as I type this I realize how fruitless it is to try and decide. We will have to draw straws unless, when we go see them on Friday, one of them does something (like  talking in English) to make it a no brainer for us.

So, out of curiosity, which puppy would YOU chose?

Isn't it obvious?

You need to just take them both.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAH!

(What did you expect asking for advice on BPO?  ;))

Seriously. I don't know how I'd choose.

Sure make it hard. I love puppies! I like the mask on Gershwin B's face.

The size of the pups has little to do with final growth...they eat as a litter so one may be pudgier than another LOL

if they are both confident, dont struggle when you handle them...can handle sights, sounds without getting stressed you may just have to do eenie meanie minew moe LOL

HMMMM This is a really hard question!  I don't know!!!  You may have to do the drawing straws idea or put their names in a hat!  lol  They're both adorable!

I say go with Gershwin A. Something about him seems right (to me anyway, doesn't that count? ;)) And also you wouldn't want to smash his ego by changing your mind! Poor little guy! He didn't do anything wrong!!! ;)

Either one will be great of course! Go with your first choice though! That's my official vote. ;D

Oooh, we would love to take both puppies! But a wise old breeder once told me,

"One pup needs you. Two pups need each other. "

Good point, Yaz.

Go with your first choice. Rebekah is right, don't second guess.

Ditto on what Babs said. It's hard to pick by looks alone.

When I picked Bubba I went by which ones were more comfortable being handled. I had 5 males to pick from. Not an easy task. LOL I touched their feet, looked in mouths, played with their ears and tail. I narrowed it down to the 2 that were submissive, but not shy or nervous. Basically the 2 that tolerated me the best :D Then I let my son pick from those 2 since they looked the same to me. LOL

Oh what a tough choice!!!
I don't envy you, that said I would have to vote for puppy #1 - only because you did choose him first; something told you that was the correct puppy for you and I also wouldn't want to hurt his little feelings.  That is just my opinion - keep us informed and I'm sure either puppy will be wonderful!!!
