Any ideas on correcting marking?

Our mastiff (1.5 yr male) and our cocker spaniel also (3 yr old male) are in a marking war. It's not all the time but enough to make you say HELP!!!!!

They only mark things when we are gone and both are guilty due to height factor.

I feed the cocker before the mastiff to maintain the pecking order and only give lovin's when both are calm and ready to be loved.

Any suggestions woul dbe helpful.
