I'm not a LGD expert by ANY means, but just because they don't have the dewclaws in the back and they have a solid belly does NOT mean that they're not a Pyr.  The lack of dewclaws is a disqualifying fault in the show ring, but especially when you're dealing with a puppy from unknown origins, it is totally possible to have a purebred without them.  And not to be a Snot Sofia, how can you know how old the puppy is if you haven't seen him in person?  I ONLY say that because pictures can be very deceiving, and I wouldn't ever be sure of a dog's age till I saw it in person and even then, I wouldn't be positive.

Okay, I hadn't known that about the dewclaws.  Thank you.  Smiley

As far as age, I just tend to think he is a little bit younger, 3-4 months is my guess, based upon size and his still having some baby teeth.  Mrs. Miller has seen him in person, so my guess is based upon what she wrote in emails.  (I know you are just trying to point out that I shouldn't make assumptions; I understand. Smiley)  I guess I need to clarify that that is just a GUESS.  Sorry about that being unclear.

I'm sure that she will post more about him later today, however.

There is a good description of Kuvasz under of course the Kuvasz section for reference, I am posting a pic of oneo f Beauty's pups at 3 months old, his face very much looks Kuvasz, althought he picture is not that great, kuvasz puppies do have a very distinct look at that age, their faces change dramatically in appearance as they grow older, it is actually quite amazing to me to see the way the face matures!

I'll be getting the little tyke later on today.  Sofia was right.  She was
giving his age based on what I told her.  I've owned 2 Kuvs in the past, and as I don't consider myself an expert on Kuvasz "looks" since there are so many different kinds, I emailed his pictures to a bunch of different Kuvasz breeders.  Except for 1 resounding no, everyone else said very possibly and to pull him.  So I am.

I also found out when reading his petfinder bio, that he was NOT brought in as part of a litter, but had been found with other puppies.
Here's the interesting part though.  Where they were found is only about 5 miles from a flea market that sells among other things - puppies!

I'll let everyone draw their own conclusions as I can only speculate as to his parentage and how he ended up on the streets in a neighborhood.
If I was a puppy miller, I would have at least dumped them in a better neighborhood!

I'll post more later today after I get him and get him settled in.

How true it is there are many different looks!  I do agree with you and Sophia on his estimated age.  Which is really all anyone can give wether you see a picture OR view in person .  Unless you are the breeder and know for a fact...There is absouetly nothing wrong in guessing the age of the pup or stating what you think it may be.Dark pigmented skin is a Kuv trait and I quote " perhaps the most amazing characteristic of this white dog is the frequent occurance of litters whelped with COMPLETE black pigmentation of skin, nose, eyelids, lips, and nails. "  Kuvasz skin is heavily pigmented slate grey to black and is one of their defining characteristic s. Anyway it is the opinion of many people who know Kuvasz looks that he is probably kuvasz or mix at any rate, I am very glad that he is finding a safe home , be careful Helen, you may fall in love!   Roll Eyes

Pippin sure is cute!  Kuv's and Pyr's are closely related, it is said that the Pyr's are direct descendants of Kuv's.  It is a matter for debate of course with some people.  The pup does resemble Pippin, also resembles Kuv pups, it is fun to compare and try and decide what he could be!  Mabye he is half pyr half kuv!   Grin  Best of both worlds! Wink

Okay, the pup is home with me.  Scared, but safe.  He's had a bath and is no longer stinky - YEAH!!!!!

As far as temperment goes, he is a playful little boy.  He's nervous inside though.  He is NOT housebroken by any stretch of the imagination.
But I think he'll be easy to train.  He is very good natured having survived being bathed by me!

I've decided to name him Joseph ("Joseph and the Coat of many Colors")
Hope I don't forget and start calling him Joey as I already have another foster by that name.  I AM open to other suggestions though.

His skin, nails, lips and eyes are all dark pigmented.  He has a few black spots on his tongue.  (Please don't say he must be Chow as there are dozens of breeds that can have that)  I honestly don't know what color to call his coat.  At the shelter, it looked ivory.  When I got him wet for his bath, he turned dark beige or gold.  As I was drying him off it got lighter, but is darker than ivory.  The darkest color is on the top of his head and ears.  There it is a beige color.  Along his back and tail is a little bit lighter.  His chest, sides and legs are white except for a bit of gold on his hocks.  And he has just the tiniest bit of black on the very tip of his tail.

He weighs 23.5 lbs at approx. 3 months.  He has all his little razor sharp puppy teeth.  I'll try to take pictures of him tomorrow and then I'll try to figure out how to post them on this board!

I just peeked in on him again.  It looks like his coat is drying even lighter.  Argh!  I did notice the little ringlets in his coat in some places and it tangles like nobodies business!  Even with conditioner!

Great suggestion Gypsy. Well with the coat and looks, sure sounds Kuvasz, but crossed with what? Hmmm, which LGD breeds produce a brown or tan coat? It must be a dog of similar breed for him to look so close to a PB.

What does everybody think.

It could still be crossed with a marked pyrs.  Sugar Bear has marked ears and a spot at the base of his tail where the undercoat is black and cream.
