Ok, I gotta ask...how many Newfoundlands are named....
« on: March 16, 2006, 06:58:05 am »
KoKo?  ::)
I know!  I have just always been a fan of Dr. Patterson's famous KoKo and my new puppy "Chloe" just looks and acts like a KoKo.  And its fun to say.

I am thinking about changing her name to either Koko or Bitsy but I don't want anyone to roll their eyes everytime I say her name!

I am just having the hardest time with such a refined name as "Chloe".  She is silly, goofy...funny.  Not a Chloe.  (My husband thinkgs I am crazy..."Its just a name" he says.  No, its what we will be repeating hopefully for many years to come!  ;D

I've never met a Newf named Koko but I have met other "Bear's" out there. It might not be original but he is a bear-like dog and I love it!  ;D

That’s amazing…there is another Newf owner where I live (They are rare around here!) and when I mentioned the name “Koko” she laughed and said ALL newf’s are named Koko!  LOL  (And yet I too have not seen another Koko since! )

BTW- I was scanning older posts yesterday (When I was supposed to be working  :-[ ) and saw a post from you in regard to being upset about someone trashing your Newfoundland.  I thought that was odd because in your picture my thought was your  Newfoundland, Bear, was really beautiful.  You know…the ones you say “Oh, I hope my Newf puppy grows up to look like that.”  It’s just what you picture in your mind when you think of a Newfoundland.

Ditto on that.. Bear is da man.  ;D When my hubby first saw his pic he said "Now there is one gorgeous Newf!!"

Beth, I would go with the name that suits her best regardless of what people think. When we decided on Bubba for our Saint and alot of people said "Bubba that's a stupid name". I told them all to pee off, since it really does suit him.  ;D

Haha Bava's name is sooo appropriate.  But I've never heard of a koko either.....I did know a Bear and a Keira(black in Gaelic)...but definitely go with the name that suits... Kalamity sure fits our Kali ;D.

I have to agree with going with the name that suits the personality (I LOVE the name Bubba!!!)

Cowboy came with his name when he came to us.  My kids HATE the name.  I wasn't terribly fond of it in the beginning but there's something about going outside at night and calling him in with "Come on in, Cowboy, it's time for bed".   :o :o :o

How long have you been calling her Chloe?  Do you think she might have any trouble answering to a new name?

I am sort of considering changing Teddy's name to "Vegas".  My Hubby is going to Las Vegas with his brother in law and everyone asks why I'm not going.  I point at Teddy and say "because HE's my Vegas!!"  We've only had him for 3 wks so it might not be a big issue....thoug h.....he does act like a big teddy bear.

Lyn, we went through the thoughts of Bubba as a name for Teddy too!  LOL!

I think Bear is a stunning Newf too!

Every girl needs a Teddy bear!

We have had her since Saturday but already noticed that she seems to be picking up on Chloe…I think it will be ok though especially since “Koko” and “Chloe” sound somewhat alike.

“because HE’S my Vegas!!”   ;D
That would be a great name with a cute story!
I was supposed to go with my husband on a business trip to Phoenix the first week of May (And I have never been out west!) but have decided not to.  I will have to tell hubby tonight that Koko IS my Arizona!   ;)
(We will get there one day when the kids are grown and gone!)

I don't know about Koko, but Bear is a really popular name for Newfs.  I think Gus, Oscar and Bruce would be good names for boy Newfs and Molly, Kona and Grace for girl Newfs.  Oso, which is Spanish for Bear, would be a good boy name too.  We named Drake, Drake, because it was a very Marin County related name and it just seemed a good fit for a boy Newf.

I like Kona and Oso.

I also thought "Kipling" would be a cute boys name.  (Um...not that I am already thinking of another.  ;D  I am just saying...;~)
