o NOES, she swallowed it - a mango seed
« on: March 23, 2006, 07:56:45 pm »
stupid owner (me)... my golden retriever spat out the seed, and the st. bernard pup (90 lbs) scooped it up, started to chew on it.. next thing i know, she swallowed it...

i'm pretty da** sure she's not gonna be able to crap it out or puke it back up... i think we're gonna be heading to the doggy ER soon as soon as i can find one...

Call the emergency vet & ask if it would be safe to have her back up...If so give her a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide...How big is a mango seed anyway? :-\

a mango seed is about the size of a 4 year old fist. that is what i have on hand, so that is how big it is. i HAPPEN to be eating a mango, and it is the same size as her fist. BTW oh no!!!! i am sorry that happened to you! keep us updated. i had NO idea that peroxcide could be given to dogs to make 'em blow chunks! ya learn something new everyday! does it have any side affects?

w00t!!! called the local emergency vet, they advised induced vomiting. i asked her thrice: "are you SURE? the mango seed is about 4" long, 3" wide and .5" thick". she told us to feed her a can of wet dog food, followed by 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide. 'she's a big girl ya know'...

9 minutes later, mango seed popped right out... thanks everyone!!!

Yes, the side effects is that it makes everything in their stomach reappear! :D It doesn't hurt them though. :)

Ahhh - what goes down must come back up again... with the help of some hydrogen peroxide! I hope she was outside or on a easily cleaned surface when it made it's reappearance.  :-X

hydrogen peroxide  :o  Who woulda thunk it?  That is GREAT information to know.  I am sorry your pupper ate the seed, but boy did we all learn something useful because of it!

Very useful to know about the hydrogen peroxide!!!! Last night I a made a batch of low-carb marbled brownies and my hubby was so anxious to eat them I put them out in the snow to cool off faster. Now I knew that both of my babies were in the house but when I went out to get then 20 min. later something had eaten the entire center of the pan!! Hubby said it was probably a raccoon or possum, gross... but at least it wasn't one of my sweeties cuz I know chocolate can be lethal. I am very careful with it but you never know what they can get into. Worse that toddlers!!!! So glad every thing came out all right tee hee......
The older I get the less I know

I was wrong about the dose of hydrogen peroxide...I guess I had my amounts mixed up with something else...Not unusual....For an around 90 lb. pup 1/4 cup is correct...Just so nobody ever needs to use it & doesn't give enough...Sorry!
