About the Samoyed Dog
The Samoyed, also known as the Sammy, was used as a herder, hunter, and sled dog in its native Siberia.
Today, the Samoyed is used mainly as a companion dog.
Sammy's are very loving and loyal dogs though they can be mischievous if not given enough attention. These dogs crave their owner's attention and love to be shown affection. They aren't known for their guard dog ability because they tend to be overly friendly. The outgoing personality of this dog makes it both fun and easy to train. They can learn to live with small pets if taught from an early age and will do all right with children. This breed is very vocal so if quiet is what you are looking for, this is not the dog for you.
The Samoyed has a medium sized head and muzzle which is very well defined. Their lips are tight with small flews that appear to make them smile when their mouth is open. Their triangular ears are usually standing erect on the head, their almond shaped eyes are dark in color as is their nose. They have a medium length tail which is carried over the back in a curl when at alert but may hang down when at rest. This dog is always white in color with a medium length coat which protects them from all weather elements.
This breed is prone to dysplasia, bloat, allergies, and eye problems.
Sammy's will do fine in any type of home with sufficient exercise though they tend not to do well in hot climates.
