The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, also called the Korthals Griffon, was created in France hunt various types of game.

Today, the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is used as both a companion dog and hunting dog.

Wirehaired Pointing Griffons are very intelligent dogs who get easily bored. They learn very quickly and love to please their owners. They are great with all members of the family and if socialized early, can become great friends with other animals. These dogs are highly territorial and therefore make a great watchdog.

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon has a medium sized skull, square muzzle and overall scruffy appearance. Their round very large and range in color from yellow to brown. They have high set ears, which lie close to the head and brown nose with wide-open nostrils. Their back if very strong as is their broad chest. Their tail is docked and is carried straight when alert and down when at rest. Their arms are longs and straight and sit atop their round feet with well-padded toes. Like other breeds, this one has a double coat. The outer coat is straight, wiry and harsh to the touch while the undercoat is fine and thick. They have bushy eyebrows and a mustache, which help give them their scruffy look. The most common colors for this breed are gray with brown markings, or with white and orange markings.

This breed is prone to dysplasia.

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon needs a lot of exercise to avoid bad behavior. He makes a great running partner and does best in a home with a large yard.
